Crested Geckos
When I was deciding on lizard species to keep, they had to
meet a certain set of requirements, which were; no insects as a
food source, not requiring huge basking lamps, be reasonably
tame enough to handle when necessary and look impressive.
Therefore Crested Geckos ticked all of these boxes for me. They are
by far one of the most popular gecko species in the world, they can
be fed on pre-made food formulas (this means no bugs) and
although I do provide mine with UV lighting and heat mats attached
to the sides of the enclosure, there is no requirement of having
large heat bulbs making the enclosure look like a flood lit football
stadium. With regards to being handled, well they tolerate me and
my girls when we do health checks, routine maintenance and cage
cleaning.
