I am a UK hobbyist/breeder based in Dartford, Kent.
I started like many keepers in the hobby with a
snake from the colubridae family, which was a
female California Kingsnake (lampropetlis getula
californiae). As many keepers know, reptiles can be
very addictive, so I soon acquired more Kingsnake
Species and attempted breeding them with great
success. After focussing on the Kingsnakes, I
decided that any spare money I had would go into
my collection, adding new animals and new
equipment to make sure my collection was always
evolving and kept up to date with new bloodlines for
diversity and equipment for the best possible care I
could provide.
Over the years I introduced more snake species as
well as amphibians, lizards and tortoises to my ever-
growing collection and I have been fortunate to keep
and breed a good variety of reptiles for several
years. With the knowledge I have gained in this
hobby (and the limited space), I decided that rather
than just collecting as many different reptiles as
possible and having a multitude of different
requirements, I would specialise in the captive
keeping and breeding of Western Hognose Snakes.
And I am sure, other reptile related keepers would
agree, it would simply be too boring with just one
species. So, I keep a small selection of other reptiles
to keep the passion alive.
